PSA
Particle Size Analyzer
The AMS PSA is an in-line particle size analyzer for slurries, providing real-time process monitoring that enables increased throughput and recovery rates.

PSA – Particle Size Analyzer
The PSA provides real-time process monitoring in wet streams. Capturing and analyzing thousands of particles per minute. It outputs the Particle Size Distribution, fractions and more; with results displayed directly at the site’s control system (DCS, SCADA).

Particle Size Analyzer
The AMS Particle Size Analyzer (PSA) provides real-time particle size monitoring, including outputs such as shape, size, and fractions. These are crucial insights for optimizing productivity and efficiency in grinding and flotation circuits. Monitoring the PSD in real time enables process adjustments to reach the desired setpoints, ensuring high operational efficiency. Stabilizing particle size distribution results in increased throughput and higher recovery rates, supported by grinding adjustments to prevent overgrinding and undergrinding.
Powerful software
The PSA uses process microscopy combined with powerful software to analyze thousands of particles every minute. The software is installed on a powerful server (workstation) that runs advanced algorithms in combination with a neural network (AI) to identify particles in hundreds of images captured in real-time by an in-line measuring probe.
Easy installation
The analyzer’s probe is installed in-line, which means it is directly mounted to the main process streams or tank. It only requires a T-section with a flange to be mounted on. This method offers significant advantages over traditional on-line particle size analysis methods, as it is a more versatile and representative method enabling measuring at different points of the process offering flexibility and therefore a greater number of applications to monitor the particle size.
Virtually no maintenance
The maintenance needs are extremely low since the AMS probe only consists of one replaceable wear part. Some of the traditional particle size analyzers need a whole infrastructure for the side stream that compromises the operational expenses (OPEX) and could cause issues with the availability of the system due to clogged samplers and small piping. The AMS (powered by SOPAT) technology measures in-line, it does not require a bypass with additional parts such as a sampler, a dilution system, etc., which are sensitive to wear and to the mining environment, making the OPEX for the PSA significantly lower.
Representativity and reliability
The PSA uniquely features the advantage of measuring directly in the main process streams or tanks, enabling the system to gather highly representative data from the full volume of slurry flowing in front of the probe. That combined with the speed and number of data gathered in real-time (12-20 images captured per second), allows the PSA to achieve the highest accuracy. The analyzer is based on a bidimensional measuring method (2D), which makes the information even more reliable as this is a step closer to our dimension (3D) when compared to other traditional analyzers (1D) or to the sieving method (1D).
